In 1957 Larimer County’s Mental Health department started with less than 10 employees. Larimer County was ahead of its time, establishing its first Community Based Mental Health department six years before the Community Mental Health Act of 1963, which provided for community mental health centers. This was the beginning of a culture shift toward understanding that people have better outcomes when offered compassionate care within their local community. And this has been our mission ever since.
In 2000 Larimer County decided to no longer include mental health services as a department of the local government, which allowed for a private, non-profit corporation to be established as the Larimer Center for Mental Health.
On August 1, 2007, the Namaqua Center merged with LCMH, enhancing our scope of services provided to families of children who have experienced trauma, have severe behavior challenges or have a diagnosable mental illness.
In 2012, Larimer Center for Mental Health rebranded to Touchstone Health Partners.
In 2015, Touchstone Health Partners modernized the brand to become SummitStone Health Partners.
Where We Are
SummitStone Health Partners is now the largest provider of behavioral healthcare services for Medicaid clients in Larimer County, serving more than 10,000 clients annually. We employ nearly 700 employees and are still growing to better meet the needs of our community.

The acute care behavioral health center provides services to individuals in crisis with mental health and/or substance use issues. At full capacity, the 64-bed facility will offer six levels of service, including behavioral health triage, 23-hour observation, short-term residential care, withdrawal management (detox), and thorough assessments by experienced behavioral health professionals. The center serves our community regardless of their ability to pay.
The CCBHC model is the gold standard in our industry and part of the evolution of our field, aiming to close gaps in health care disparities by increasing access to and quality of behavioral health services. In Larimer County, the funding will allow SummitStone to enhance services for people from under-represented communities, people who are un- or under-insured, and members of the armed forces, veterans and their families.
